Member Spotlights

Over the course of the year, YLND will feature members to help you learn more about those that actively participate in YLND! We'll start with each of our current committee members over the upcoming months.

COMMUNICATIONS, KENDRA BAYNE
Assistant Director of Assessment, Communications, & Staff Development, RecSports

How has YLND assisted you in connecting with other young professionals?
When accepting a position at Notre Dame two years ago, I was new to not only Notre Dame, but also to South Bend. In two years, I have been able to connect with many young professionals because of Young Leaders. From happy hours, to trivia nights, to playing softball and dodgeball with other young leaders, this organization has helped me meet others on campus that I normally wouldn't interact with. It's given me a wide network of people that I feel comfortable in reaching out to shall I never need anything!
Favorite YLND memory
Probably playing Intramural Sports with our newly formed group! What started out as an idea, ended up with two seasons of Intramurals (thus far), and a group of us that have a special bond and experience we all share. We're looking forward to others joining us in seasons to come!
What is your favorite "hidden secret" about Notre Dame?
As a marketing professional, I'm all about details! Notre Dame has an Editorial Style Guide that many seem to be unaware of! From dates, to times, to how to spell out different Notre Dame associated terms, this Style Guide has it all! Whether it be you need it for your website, or even when you're writing an email, I think it's a great resource to utilize in all communications.
Fun fact about yourself
Not sure if this is fun or not....but I cut my head open wakeboarding in college and had to get 15 staples! Needless to say, I typically stick to water skiing now!

Ylnd Steering Committee Jenny Borg 333 X 450 Px

CHAIR, JENNY BORG
Assistant Director of Special Projects, Athletics

How has YLND assisted you in connecting with other young professionals?
When I arrived on campus as a young professional many, many years ago, I craved for a group such as YLND to exist to help get me connected to other young professionals at the university. Therefore, when I heard this group was forming two years ago for this purpose I knew I had to be a part of it!  This is my 3rd and last year on the steering committee and through this experience alone I would say my personal network with the University has grown extensively, I see familiar faces on campus all over and mostly coming from YLND events. It has really helped broaden my community here and I truly hope it has done the same for many other members.
Favorite YLND memory
Probably our kick-off event.  We had no idea what to expect but almost 150 individuals attended who were very excited about the forming of the group. I remember being so thankful the University was initiating and supporting efforts to connect all these individuals and enthusiastic about all the possibilities that lied ahead!
What is your favorite "hidden secret" about Notre Dame?
Not sure if it would be considered as 'hidden' but probably the 9th hole at the Burke Golf Course and especially in the Fall. On a beautiful night it provides a wonderful backdrop of the Dome and Basilica and some other great parts of campus.  Plus I am viewing it from my happy place - the golf course! It really keeps me centered on how much I love this place and all that the University has meant to me.
Fun fact about yourself
In my 11 years with ND, I have held six different positions in two different departments - Athletics and Human Resources. It has provided me with an array of different opportunities and experiences and helped me learn to be open to change and embrace risk. A wise coworker once told me - when you are the most uncomfortable, you are actually learning and growing the most - and he was so right (thank you Rob Kelly)!
